Overview

Compelling, informative and highly illustrated series of investigations into the different types of weather in Aotearoa, New Zealand.

Meteorological Service of New Zealand (MetService) brings the stories and the science of weather together to highlight the impacts of wild weather in a book.
This book includes eyewitness reports of rivers washing bridges away, standing in the path of an ex-tropical cyclone, the tingling after a lightning strike, and being thrown by a violent tornado, along with MetService meteorologists' expert explanations of the conditions that caused these terrifying weather events.

My role

I'm proud to be a part of this book project as a sole graphic information designer; my role was to visualise complicated weather phenomena as infographic design.
Skill required: Illustration, Photoshop, managing file’s version, time management, communicating with several meteorologists.

Working with Weather Experts

It's been a 2 year-long project led by our Head of Weather Communications and Senior Communications Advisor, in partnership with Penguin books. I worked closely with them to deliver their imagination to the visual canvas.
The detailed and precise graphic was essential to deliver to readers; To have consistent language and show clear interpretation in the drawing, communicating with meteorologists frequently, and adjusting fine graphics were huge part of the process.
